Shaping the Magnetic Circuit
Low carbon steel plays an important role in the magnetic circuit of a PAF-style pickup. Its magnetic properties help shape the pickup’s response, keeping the sound open and detailed without becoming overly bright or thin. Using low carbon slugs, screws and keeper bars keeps the assembly closely aligned with vintage-spec PAF construction.

3D-Scanned Profile & Clarity
Based on a 3D scan of an original 1959 PAF cover, our covers are made to match the period-correct profile and dimensions. Pure nickel silver helps keep eddy current losses low, preserving clarity, openness and high-end detail. Unlike brass or copper-underplated covers, this construction helps retain the pickup’s natural top-end response.

Wire That Shapes the Resonance
Plain enamel has a thicker insulation than modern poly, increasing the spacing between wire turns. This decreases inter-winding capacitance, shifting the resonant peak higher to deliver that hallmark airy top end and midrange clarity.

Magnets with Sweetness and Bloom
Our roughcast Alnico II magnets are carefully selected and charged for a controlled, vintage-style magnetic response.
Paired with the coil design, they help give the pickup its softer attack, natural compression, harmonic bloom and sweeter high-end character, while keeping the feel open and dynamic.
NICKEL SILVER BASEPLATES & BRASS SCREWS
The Foundation Beneath the Coils
We utilize pure nickel-silver baseplates for their higher resistivity, which limits eddy currents to keep the overall resonance smooth and balanced. Non-magnetic brass mounting screws secure the bobbins without drawing magnetic flux through the base, helping the magnetic field remain uniform across the coils and strings.
