The Details That Define the Sound
VINTAGE-CORRECT BY DESIGN
LOW CARBON STEEL: SLUGS, SCREWS & KEEPER BAR
Shaping the Magnetic Circuit
Vintage correct low carbon steel gives the magnetic circuit high permeability, so inductance and body stay in the vintage range. Higher carbon steels lower permeability and raise the resonant frequency, which can sound brighter but leaner. Using true low carbon slugs, screws, and keeper bars preserves the open yet full response of late-’50s PAF pickups.
’59 PROFILE NICKEL SILVER COVERS
Clarity and Vintage-Accurate Shape
Made from a 3D scan of an original 1959 PAF. Nickel silver keeps eddy current losses low, preserving clarity and open treble, which is why true ’50s PAFs sound bright and articulate. Brass covers or modern nickel silver with copper underplating reduce high end and dull that natural openness.
42 AWG PLAIN ENAMEL
Wire That Shapes the Resonance
Plain enamel has a thicker insulation than modern poly, which decreases capacitance and inductance. This shifts the resonant peak higher and decreases output, giving the airy top end and midrange clarity.
ALNICO II ROUGHCAST
Magnets with Sustain and Bloom
AlNiCo II has a softer field with lower coercivity than stronger AlNiCo types. It pulls less on the string, giving longer sustain, natural bloom, smoother attack and sweeter highs. This magnet choice captures the character and dynamic response heard in the original PAFs.
NICKEL SILVER BASEPLATES & BRASS SCREWS
The Foundation Beneath the Coils
The original PAF pickups used nickel silver baseplates for their higher resistivity, which limits eddy currents and keeps the resonance smooth and balanced.
Brass mounting screws secure the bobbins without drawing magnetic flux through the base, helping the field remain uniform across the coils and strings.
MAPLE SPACER
Mechanical Stability That Maintains Clarity
Used in the original PAFs, maple provides greater rigidity and natural damping than plastic. This stability reduces mechanical resonance within the assembly, helping preserve treble detail and improving resistance to microphonic feedback.

Doug & Pat Show
“Lots of bloom.”
Joe Perkins
“I’ve played most of the big boutique PAF makers – Monty, OX4, ThroBak, Wizz – and in this guitar, these are my favourite.”

About Olemy Pickups
Where Modern Engineering Meets Vintage Tone
” I went down the rabbit hole, trying most of the popular boutique PAFs. None quite captured the balance I was chasing: the clear, airy high end, harmonically rich mids, and defined, articulate low end. I realised if I wanted that sound, I’d have to create it myself.”
“That started years of research, testing, and winding, understanding every element that made the late 50s PAFs so special and recreating it as precisely as possible.”

The Science, Materials, and Methods Behind Every Olemy Pickup
Welcome To Olemy Pickups
Welcome to Olemy Pickups. I hope you all enjoy the PAfs. I’m going to be working on vintage correct Strat, P90 and Tele pickups so keep and eye for what’s to come! Will Start a weekly video series soon on the science behind pickups/humbuckers and different winding parameters that effect
